The cost of contaminated food
Every year one out of six Americans contract a foodborne illness. Globally, over 400,000 deaths occur annually as a result of pathogens in food. And on average, it costs food companies $10 million in losses to recall products, not to mention the loss of future sales and reputation.
With proper safety techniques, much of this senseless illness and economic waste could be avoided. From the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) compliance to regular environmental monitoring for pathogens, food safety is crucial to any organization’s success.

About JuiceBot: JuiceBot designs and manufactures the JuiceBot – the world’s first-ever robotic juice dispenser. Their goal is to make freshly made, truly organic smoothies and juices as accessible and easy to find as a soda machine.
The beauty – and challenge – of organic juice
In recent years, the US has seen a significant increase in demand for cold-pressed organic juices. Cold pressing, a technique which uses hydraulic presses to extract liquid from fresh fruit and vegetables, doesn’t use any additional heat or oxygen like traditional juicers, which means that your fresh juice maintains all its healthy nutrients – and it tastes great!
Fresh juices, however, can present some food safety challenges. Since there is no kill step involved in cold pressing, foodborne bacteria like listeria can survive and make people sick. Proper food safety systems are critical when it comes to fresh juices.
To provide customers with exceptional quality juice while maintaining high food safety standards, JuiceBot teamed up with PathSensors. Using PathSensors’ Zephyr instrument and CANARY technology, every batch of fresh juice that goes into a JuiceBot dispenser has been tested for foodborne pathogens.
